Digital Atlas of Australia recognised in 2025 Special Achievement in GIS Awards

ŮŮÊÓƵhas earned international recognition for geospatial excellence, receiving a Special Achievement in GIS Award for the development and delivery of the Digital Atlas of Australia. The award was presented at the annual Esri User Conference in San Diego on 16 July 2025.

Geoscience Australia’s Chief of Place and Communities Division, Maree Wilson, said that the award highlights the organisation’s commitment to leading and innovating in the delivery of geospatial capability that supports national priorities.

“We are thrilled to receive this award,” Ms Wilson said.

“It recognises our achievement in delivering a modern, national geospatial capability that is transforming how trusted national data is accessed and used, supporting better place-based decisions.”

The Digital Atlas provides an online platform where users can explore and visualise data by location. It brings together, curates and connects trusted national datasets on Australia’s geography, people, economy, and the environment.

As the Australian Government’s lead agency on national location data and capabilities, ŮŮÊÓƵis leading the delivery of the Digital Atlas.

“We’re proud to see our work delivering real-world outcomes across Australia and demonstrating to the world what’s possible at scale, even in a country as large and diverse as ours,” Ms Wilson said.

Powered by a digital ecosystem, the Digital Atlas provides the national infrastructure that enables trusted data suppliers to connect and share their data across borders, systems, portals and technologies.

“Importantly, this is a shared achievement,” Ms Wilson added. “We have built the Digital Atlas through collaboration, co-design, and data contributions from our partners across government.”

Working together with its partners, ŮŮÊÓƵcontinues to grow the Digital Atlas, increasing its impact and ensuring it remains a trusted, accessible tool for all Australians into the future.
