12–18 October 2025 Five ways to celebrate Earth Science Week 2025
Page last updated:5 June 2025
How much of our everyday lives is impacted by Earth science?
Earth science impacts a whole lot more than you might think...
Have you ever checked the time? Checked the weather app before going out? Checked the location of your pizza or how far away your nearest 24/7 Chemist is? Earth science helps us do all these things.
Have you ever wondered where earthquakes occur in Australia and how they are investigated? We do that with the power of Earth science. The material made of minerals in your smartphone, the soil that grows your food, and the fuel that powers your home, all trace back to Earth science. It’s not just about rocks and volcanoes; it’s about how our planet supports life and how we can protect that balance.
Earth science is the study of our planet: the land we live on, the air we breathe, the oceans we swim in, and the weather location app we plan our weekends around. It helps us understand things like why volcanoes erupt, where we find clean water and grow food, and how to keep our homes safe from floods or fires.
That is why Earth Science Week is so important, and why we celebrate the role Earth science plays in our world!
